Configurations of EPS1000
Standard configuration as a polarization scrambler/transformer
As above, but with extra input for optical power measurement. This permits PDL measurements. Residual PDL of the LiNbO3 polarization transformer can be calibrated out by a reference measurement. An optical switch can be integrated in the desktop unit to facilitate this. It is also possible to include additional components such as a digitally controlled optical attenuator at the input of the EPS1000 for increased dynamic range of loss measurements.
As above but with two extra inputs for optical power measurements. This permits ratiometric PDL measurements without the need for a completely separate reference measurement. A tap coupler can be spliced to ithe EPS1000 to facilitate this. More about the PDL multimeter function is found here.
